Into the Republic

Image
We've crossed our border into the Republic of Ireland. Donegal laid out before us. Grianán of Aileach - a celtic stone fort Inside Grianán of Aileach.  Try to say that. Surveying the fields of Donegal. Kids. Driver - Dave.  We are SO LUCKY to have him as our driver - he's a fully certified Irish Guide, and he's taken us to places we would not have visited otherwise. Dave keeps us entertained at this 5000 year old stone circle. On the solstice the sun shines directly down the centre of this. LOL Attempting the Irish dance. Dave's got the details of this Celtic Cross covered. Some guy's grave.

Highlands finale

Image
Our final day in the Highlands of Scotland involved deep lakes and high hills.   Starting the Three Sisters Hike in Glen Coe. Rocky I Lunch on the hill Optical Illusion  Across the glen On top of Urquhart Castle The man in the skirt who took our picture insisted we do this.  Pretty half-hearted.  Except Shelley. That beautiful lake is 750 feet deep and has a monster in it. Top of the tower to ya! The king. A lot of purple and green in the Highlands... ... and these colours.  Guess who?  The escapees of the Glen Coe massacre did not have these nice stairs to help them run to the hills... run for their lives One of my favourite picnics ever Tiny patch of sun down the valley The bowels of the castle. How do you say there, flapjack! Mr J demonstrates Highland dancing.

Princes of the Universe

Ben Vrackie is a wee walk from the highlands town of Pitlochry.  Mr. Johnson scheduled it for a nice typical sunny Scottish day.  Tapadh leat! Time to go.            The peak of Ben Vrackie Just try to keep up with them.  Just try.  It's not going to happen.  Loch a'Choire  Local cliff traversing sheep Ascending No problem! Nice face boy. Careful... There it goes! I need to trim that. Looking back at Ben Vrackie from one of the other peaks. Fail. The wind doesn't wreck my hair.  Some of the princes of the universe. No FOTO!! On the top! Yo. The beautiful loch. The national flower of Scotland - the thistle.  One of the many obstacles we faced on the way to the top.
